Taft Street Chardonnay Sonoma County 2010

Member Review by Tyler Worth:

86 points. The aroma on this wine is sweet and buttery, with a faintly oaky component. There is a very soft toasty tone, a bit of hazelnut, creamery butter, fresh baguette, and a touch of flint. It opens buttery, but there is also a lightness to it that elevates the freshness of the fruit. There is a mineral-toned puff of smoke, a nice touch of toast, and a subtle nuttiness. However, through the veil of oaked tones, there are very fresh, lively flavors of peach and apple. The finish is supple, toasty, and very nicely spiced, inviting sip after sip. This wine has a refreshing medium weight, a delicate lightness, and very soft oak tones. It’s interesting, and it almost tastes like two separate wines unfolding at once, one oaked Chardonnay and another unoaked. This style of wine is exceptionally food friendly and versatile, and it’s pretty nicely done for the price. This is a solid, easy-drinking Chardonnay, a wine worth buying. Since 1979, we have carried on the garagistes tradition of innovation and excellance in a chateau alternative locale. Taft Street Winery continues in the garagistes traditions to this day, producing limited production, handcrafted wines from select Sonoma County vineyards. Our goals have not changed. We make great wine; make it available at a fair price; and, most of all, have fun in the process. Read less

This excellent Chardonnay is similar to, and as good as, a number of Russian River Chardonnays that cost at least 50% more. Fresh, balanced wine displaying a nice mix of fruit and oak flavors - apricot, spiced apple, and classic carmel/butterscotch notes preceding a finish with a touch of toasty oak. Very fairly priced for the quality.

This rich impressive Chardonnay has bold and concentrated flavors, with layers of creamy pear and melon. This wine gains intensity in the mouth and remains through a full finish.
