Tablas Creek, founded by the Perrin brothers of Chateau de Beaucastel and Robert Haas of Vineyard Brands, produces organically farmed, estate-grown Rhone varietals and blends in the limestone clay soils of west Paso Robles.
Holy smokes--blueberry aromas and flavors, laced with blackberry. Great tannic grip in the midpalate and finish, but in no way overwhelming though it does turn a bit drying.
An absolutely fantastic wine. It is hugely extracted with plenty of dark fruits. The nose is complex and hedonistic and makes you want to keep the remains around in the glass for perfume. The wine is a beast in the mouth with intense tannins, earthiness and spice. A somewhat unusual varietal by a consistently dynamite producer.
A rich, smoky wine that improves dramatically with as little as 2-3 years bottle age. Wonderful with duck!
