What to Expect

Though Mourvèdre is a grape with Spanish roots, where it is known as Monastrell, it is most closely associated with the South of France and the Bandol appelation in particular, where the grape produces rich, powerful wines that retain rustic tannins partnered with dark, wild berry flavors and gamy, leathery nuances. It is also commonly called Mataro in California.

Reviews

The Tablas Creek Vineyard Cotes de Tablas is a blend of four estate-grown Rhone varietals: 72% Grenache, 11% Syrah, 9% Mourvedre and 8% Counoise. Like most wines of the Southern Rhone, it is a blend of varietals, featuring the fruitiness of Grenache balanced by the spice and structure of Syrah, with meaty, earthy notes from Mourvedre and Counoise. The 2006 Cotes de Tablas has an intensely Grenache nose of cherries, rare steak and pepper. It is medium-bodied, with rich juicy, spicy flavors, gentle ripe tannins and a finish laced with licorice. 89 Points The more challenging 2006 vintage has produced read more...

This is a blend of four estate grown grape varieties: Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache and a dash of Counoise. It's well-structured and very generous on the palate with dark berried fruit, raspberries and spice. Organic.

The Côtes de Tablas is a blend of four estate-grown Rhône varietals: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and Counoise. Like most wines of the Southern Rhône, it is a blend of varietals, featuring the fruitiness of Grenache balanced by the spice and structure of Syrah, with meaty, earthy notes from Mourvedre and Counoise. As with all Tablas Creek wines, the grapes for the Côtes de Tablas were grown on their 120-acre certified organic estate vineyard. The 2006 vintage was a study of contrasts, with a cold, wet start, a very hot early summer, a cool late summer and a warm, beautiful fall. Ample rainfall read more...

Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, and Counoise. Apples, cherry, and strawberry aromas and palate. Candy apple notes emerge, as well as sweet apple-spice aromas. Lovely streak of limestone adds complexity.
