Sylvie Esmonin 2006
I'll preface this by saying I *already* bought another bottle of this, pretty much immediately after emptying the first. This is a really pretty wine and it's drinking well right now. It opens with a lovely perfumed and thoroughly burgundian nose -- all violets and flowers and candied black fruit. Notes are blackberry, currant, wet stone, well-integrated oak and some herbs. Also tasted some candied lemon peel and strawberry. Very fruity and bright, with lively acidity. This paired well with canard aux framboises, and is a great value.
Well, there goes another bottle. Paired this with duck again, this time with pomegranate sauce, and it was just delicious. The raspberry / strawberry notes seemed more dominant this time, with some spicebox and flowers in the background. Maybe I'll get just one more bottle...
