What to Expect

Petite Sirah is one of a group of grapes that took to a new home - in this case California - after moving from the relative obscurity enjoyed at its birthplace - France in this case - where it is called Duriff. While never particularly elegant nor subtle, Petite Sirah can produce large-scaled, intense wines with bright flavors of blue and plummy fruits, rich with earthy tannins.

Reviews

Nearly off the charts in terms of richness, the 2004 Petite Sirah Peterson Family Vineyard possesses an extraordinary perfume of violets, pepper, blueberries, blackberries, creme de cassis, and graphite. Terrific intensity, huge body, and sweet tanni... Robert Parker. A Petite Sirah wine from California in USA. 2004 Switchback Ridge Petite Sirah Peterson Family Vineyard 750ml

WS 94 (2/2007): Bold, ripe, rich and fleshy. Seductive in its own way, showing tiers of wild berry and blackberry, with hints of vanilla and spice. Packs in a wallop of fruit, yet it's remarkably elegant and polished for its size and variety. Drink now through 2012. 280 cases made.

IWC 92 (6/2007): Saturated ruby to the rim. Deep, vinous aromas of cassis, black cherry, menthol and licorice. A primary, intense fruit bomb, with fresh flavors of black cherry and cassis. Finishes with huge but ripe tannins and lovely lingering sweetness.
