Swedish Hill Vineyard Vidal Blanc 2008

Member Review by LennThompson:

In the glass, this wine is extremely pale, nearly colorless with only the slightest yellow tinge. Expressive peach, orange blossom and pear aromas are enticing and somewhat riesling-like.On the palate, it's heftier than a riesling. There is some sweetness (1.6% RS) but it's balanced with fresh acidity. The flavors match the nose almost exactly, but with a little minerality and a hint of orange zest on a surprisingly long finish.

Just 1,300 cases were produced that year; this year we produced over 60,000 cases of award-winning wines and champagnes. Swedish Hill is recognized as one of the top award-winning wineries in New York State, having won state, national and international acclaim. In 1997, the Petersons opened a second winery, Goose Watch, also on Cayuga Lake. The emphasis at Goose Watch is on the unusual, featuring a selection of wines that are not very common in other Finger Lakes wineries, such as Viognier, Pinot Gris, Melody, Diamond, Merlot and Lemberger. Worthy recipient of the coveted Governor's Cup (the highest honor a New York wine can win), the Swedish Hill Vidal is juicy and bursting with pineapple, pear and apricot fruit flavors. With a great acidity and a mild sweetness, this wine is pleasant, refreshing and food-friendly - perfect for all occasions. Fans of German Riesling or French Vouvray definitely need to pick up a bottle or two!

This award winner from the Finger Lakes is crisp, fruity and has just a touch of sweetness. Great with chicken.
