Swanson Syrah Napa Valley 1994

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Candied: a bit of root beer, licorice, deep gamy core, violet pastille, leather, peppery cinnamon and cigar box over a base of black olive juice. Very lean and focused, with plenty of sweet fruit that tends to the red end of the spectrum. Lots of cola, root beer, and cinnamon spice layered over a fine bed of dark, firm fruit. This finishes with intense inner mouth perfumes and decent length. Very perfumed, very New World but complex and rather friendly. Light powdery tannins persist on the finish. 91pts

Dark chocolate, spiciness, and blackberries, very exciting and complex. Apple fruit in the body and finish.

Deep cherry and resinous berries invade in the nose with a a delicate entry on the palette. Woody and dusty with a bit of smoke and a very dry finish

Lots of deliciousness on the nose, sweet ripe fruits, chocolate and caramel. Very light body, light tannins, deep black ripe cheery flavors.

The nose was infectious to the point that it was hard to pull away from it. It showed sweet maraschino cherry with cinnamon, medicinal herbs and floral notes, yet as sweet and rich as it was, it had finesse and elegance. On the palate, I found black fruits and spice, which gained depth and followed across the palate like silk until the close where juicy acidity turned to sour juicy fruit that stayed through the finish.

Dark cherry, root beer, brown sugar and candied notes on the nose. Violet, olive and cinnamon showed up on the palate over a blanket of fruit. Straight-forward, full bodied, medium tannins.
