The history of Sutter Home Winery dates back to the late 1800's, when a Swiss-German immigrant named John Thomann established a small winery and distillery in the heart of California's Napa Valley. Although much has changed for the Trincheros and Sutter Home, the motto and philosophy originated by their father more than a half-century ago remains the same: "A great product for a fair price." After resurrecting Sutter Home in 1948, the Trincheros struggled to keep the family winery afloat, imbuing it with the values of hard work, ingenuity, humility and integrity that have characterized them ever since. Each member of the family played a vital role in keeping the business running: Mother Mary Trinchero kept the books, younger children Vera and Roger helped on the bottling line, while older brother Bob assisted his dad, Mario, and uncle John in cleaning out tanks and barrels. The family's cohesion kept Sutter Home together and eventually made it the success it is today. With its creation of White Zinfandel in the early 1970s and the introduction of high-quality, affordably priced varietal wines during the 1980s and '90s, Sutter Home became a household name and the second largest, independent family-run winery in the U.S. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

WHat can I say about Sutter Home.. It's cheap plonk that while drinkable, is not anything I would purchase unless it were my only option. I.E on a plane.

This wine recalls the glory days of a decade ago, when there were dozens of delicious California Chardonnay available for under $8. Today this sort of forward, fruity, ripe, round wine is more likely to cost you twice that. Yet here is a creamy, cleanly made wine, showing plump, fresh fruit flavors and a lingering finish.

Tasting Notes:

Our Chardonnay offers lovely aromas of fresh pear, peach, apple and lemon, enhanced by a rich creamy tone imparted by partial malolactic fermentation and wood aging. The wine’s smooth texture and peach flavors persist into a long, flavorful aftertaste. This delicious, beautifully balanced Chardonnay makes an ideal match for any seafood or poultry dish, as well as for veal or pork chops, cream sauce pastas, and both mild and flavorful cheeses.

After pressing, the juice is cold-fermented in stainless steel tanks to capture the fresh apple, citrus, and peach aromas and flavors. Partial malolactic fermentation and French and American oak aging impart a full, round texture and a toasty, creamy tone.
