Susana Balbo Signature Barrel Fermented Torrontés 2014

Winemaker's Notes:

*Previously labelled as 'BenMarco' Torrontés for the 2013 vintage* *Included in '10 Argentine wines to drink before you die' - Luis Gutierrez, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate* *93 Points - Luis Gutierrez, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 2015* *93 Points - Tim Atkin’s Argentine Special Report March 2015* *91 Points - Stephen Tanzer’s Vinous Report March 2015* *Susana Balbo - Drinks Business 2015 Woman of the Year Award* Susana Balbo set up Dominio del Plato in 1999, in the heart of Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, after working more than 20 years as a consultant winemaker for national and international wine companies, including Catena Zapata and Michel Torino. She was the first Argentinean woman hired as a consultant to wineries worldwide, in places as diverse as Spain, Chile, Italy, Brazil, Australia, and California, and she is credited with significantly raising the profile of the indigenous Torrontés grape. The wine is treated to three months' fermentation in new French oak, and is a serious, textured take on Torrontés. Rich and toasty on the nose with honeyed lime and stone fruits, alongside hallmark notes of jasmine and sweet apricot. The palate is rounded and weighty with juicy stone fruits, balanced by a lean, zesty backbone that gives the wine a wonderful structure and makes this very food-friendly. The finish is long with toasty notes. Enjoyable now, this also has the stucture and intensity to develop further over the next 5-8 years. "The oak is perfectly integrated, in fact the nose is very fruit and flower-driven, even a little piquant, with faint spices and lots of freshness. The palate is very intense, with penetrating flavors, great freshness and minerality, ending almost salty. The oak is really imperceptible. The first vintage of this wine was only 2012, and in its third year it is already a benchmark Torrontés. If you want to oak a Torrontés, this is the way to do it." 93 Points - Luis Gutierrez, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 2015

Dominio del Plata is a family-owned and run project of Susana Balbo (Enologist) and Pedro Marchevsky (Viticulturist). The core philosophies that they share, and that figure prominently in the production of their wines, are the following: Precision Viticulture This is a grape-growing philosophy that demands attention to detail, however small. The planting of the vineyards, varietal selections, vineyard management systems, water management, canopy conduction, sanitary precautions and harvesting decision are all managed personally by Pedro and Susana in order to achieve the highest quality standards. Sustainable Agriculture The entire project is specially designed and implemented in a way that doesn’t harm the natural resources, preserves the environment, functions according to social requirements, and at the same time maintains productivity in order to remain economically competitive. Superior Winemaking Skills Our winemaking skills and professional knowledge have been developed over more than two decades through intensive and prolonged education and research. From this accumulated knowledge, we have designed and constructed a winery that employs state-of-the-art enological technology for the processing of grapes and therefore the production of high-quality wine. Love and Passion Knowledge and experience are not the only keys to successful winemaking. The dedication and diligence of our entire family working in the vineyard, in the winery and for the marketing of the wines gives the company its unique character.
