Bright red-ruby. Rather brooding aromas of dark currant, licorice, violet, chocolate and brown spices gained in complexity as the wine opened in the glass. The attractively sweet palate is nicely supported by integrated acidity. A firmly structured, dry malbec with serious tannins.
Tangy and minerally, the 2008 Crios Malbec showed bright aromas and flavors of sweet blueberry and blackberry; modest notes of vanilla and spice illustrate her judicious use of oak. It's straightforward, with a juicy finish and fairly plush tannins. I gave it 88 points, non-blind. It's great with a steak, but also enjoyable on its own and would make a great party wine.
A touch tight, but with a good medium-weight, juicy core of crushed plum, macerated currant and blackberry fruit. A nice twinge of licorice keeps this honest on the finish. Drink now.
Blended with 10% Bonarda; incense, spice box, underbrush, black cherry, savory, ripe, long.
The purple-colored 2007 Malbec offers an enticing bouquet of spice box, cedar, black cherry and black raspberry. Medium-bodied and full-flavored, on the palate it has gobs of spicy, savory fruit, soft tannins, and a lengthy finish. It may well evolve for 1-2 years but there is no reason to defer gratification. All of the Crios wines are phenomenal values worth buying by the case.
Bright, full ruby-red. Musky aromas of dark plum and espresso, plus a hint of licorice. Ripe, smooth, fine-grained and quite dry. Could use a bit more snap, but this is broad and satisfying red wine with a fresh finish featuring dusty tannins.
A huge malbec, this is generous and gentle, as satisfying as a bowl of blackberries with cream. Its soft tannins and mellow acidity are complemented by the warmth of its alcohol. Give it a year or two to gain in complexity.
The wine has a beautiful reddish/purple color as most good Malbecs do. The aromas are a mix of freshly crushed black cherries and toasty/smoky oak-- just enough to frame the exuberant fruit. On the palate, the flavors of cherries and spice are obvious, and the jammy fruit quality just keeps coming on strong, with hints of spice and sandalwood lurking in the background. This is a wine that you'll want to buy by the case because it can be consumed at almost any occasion, whether at a fancy dinner party, or just curled up on the couch in front of a movie.
