Susana Balbo Malbec 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

The wine has a beautiful reddish/purple color as most good Malbecs do. The aromas are a mix of fresh crushed cherries and toasty/smoky oak—just enough to frame the exuberant fruit. On the palate, the flavors of cherries and spice are obvious, and the jammy fruit quality just keeps coming on strong, with hints of spice and sandalwood lurking in the background.

This is a nice bottle. Dark black fruit and earth. Round tannins and long finish. This is a great wine for the price.

The color was bright translucent pink, the color of cranapple juice. The nose was sweet, strawberry, candied cherries and some spice, maybe cloves and ginger. It was full-bodied, a true child of the juice and the skins, rather than just the juice, with the skins in the role of a distant uncle. The palate opened with sweet fruit, strawberry and cherries, but a firm midpalate of smoke, cloves and ginger said this was a serious wine. Then it got playful again, ending in candied fruit and ginger, like a fresh holiday fruit cake.SECOND NIGHTClose your eyes and take a sniff- is that a glass of wine or am I in a room full of strawberries? Nope, not just strawberries, there are some Ruby Red grapefruit here, too, and cinnamon. Sip it. Strawberries first, just like the nose, a touch of cocoa powder that reminds you it comes from malbec grapes, then the same Ruby Red grapefruit and cinammon from the nose. Some of the cherries from night one join for the finish. This is a good rose. It is bright, acidic, fresh, and even just slightly tannic. This is a rose that reminds you it really does come from a red grape, not just a tinted white.

Another great value from Susana Balbo. Violet-hued. The nose has lots of smoke, spice, and berry. Even though it seems a bit hot from alcohol, the wine is wonderfully balanced with round tannins and moderate acidity. See additional wine reviews at: http://winedinewith.us/

Loved this rose -- wasn't too metallic as some roses can taste, wasn't too dry like a white, great flavor and body like a red. This is the perfect rose for both white and red drinkers afraid that "pink" wine is like white zinfandel. It will convert them.

RP: The 2007 Rose of Malbec is medium pink with an expressive bouquet of strawberry and cherry. The wine is medium-bodied with lots of glycerin giving the wine a smooth palate feel. Dry in style, the wine has rich flavors, excellent acidity, and a lengthy finish. Drink this remarkably food-friendly wine over the next 1-2 years.Although Susana Balbos's Crios offerings are the declassified lots from her more expensive signature wines, they need make no apologies. They rank among the best values from my Argentina wine tastings. All of the Crios wines are outstanding values.

Wine Tasting NotesA beautiful, deep, vibrant rose color. Has a surprising amount of glycerin and body for a rose wine, and beautiful aromas of fresh, ripe wild strawberries. On the palate, the flavors of strawberries and cherries come rushing in, accompanied by some spice notes and a clean, dry finish. This is the wine to serve with warm-weather meals when there is a mix of traditional white & red wine foods. Keep one in the fridge at all times and youll always have a delicious wine to enjoy with light snacks and cheeses. Best consumed in its youth.

Wine Tasting NotesThe wine has a beautiful reddish/purple color as most good Malbecs do. On the palate, the flavors of cherries and spice are obvious, and the jammy fruit quality just keeps coming on strong, with hints of spice lurking in the background. This is a wine that you'll want to buy by the case because it can be consumed at almost any occasion, whether at a fancy dinner party, or just curled up on the couch in front of a movie. Fun and delicious - what more can you ask for?!
