Robert Parker 91 Points 14%abv. Susana Balbo is one of Argentina's best innovative producers, and this is her signature wine. For 25 years she has been making wine in Argentina and at many wineries around the world, where she spends each September in a different country to expand her knowledge. The 100% Malbec grapes were grown at altitude to retain acidity, subsequently fermented then aged in 80% French oak, then 20% American oak for 13 months. Beautiful deep violet color with exploding aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and violets framed byhints of oak and mint. The wonderful aromas are mirrored on the palate, and they are joined by ripeplum fruit and a hint of toasty vanilla, bittersweet chocolate, and a hint of mint on the finish. This isa ripe and rich style of wine, but the Cabernet adds structure, reigning in the fruit and focusing itinto a long finish. A wine that truly struggles between its fun and serious side. Pairs well with a widerange of foods from beef and pork to game birds or even meat-based pastas. This is what Malbecis all about.
