Surh Luchtel Syrah Napa Valley 2003

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Recommendation: Surh-Luchtel Cellars 2003 Syrah Tasting Notes: This mountain syrah is about intensity and grip, the opposite the fruit forward syrah of ours from Page Nord Vineyard in Napa Valley. It displays complex aromas of blackberry, earth and leather. In the mouth, the broad, rich flavors of game and smoked meats are followed by ripe, well-integrated tannins that lead to a long finish. While it may never lose its tannins, this syrah is for those who prefer a little grip in their wines. Vineyard & Winemaking Notes: The Syrah from the Mt Veeder was harvested on 10/28/2003, cold soaked for 2 days before being fermented for 10 days with the maximum temperature of 86 degrees. The malolactic fermentation took place in the barrel. The wine was racked 4 times before being bottled in August of 2005. Technical Notes: Appellation: Napa Valley Harvest : 10/28/2003 Alcohol : 14.4% pH: 3.88 Total Acidity: .64 g/100mL Aging: 21 months in used French oak (25% new) Bottling Date: August, 2005 Production: 500 Cases Return to Surh-Luchtel wine list

Our goal is to make balanced and yet concentrated wines that display the fruit and the character of the vintage and region. From our full-bodied intense Cabernet Sauvignon to our softer Bordeaux blend Mosaique, our wines are meant to be a part of food, to be enjoyed with your loved ones frequently. Our production is extremely limited, usually each batch consisting of no more than a few hundred cases. Our wines are truly handcrafted and we hope that our passion shows through in our wines. Surh Luchtel wines are the result of collaboration between two long time friends Don Surh and Gary Luchtel. First as housemates in college in the Oakland hills in the late 70’s, we became friends over many a bottle and discovered that our wine interests were more than casual. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
