Sula Chenin Blanc 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Enterprising Stanford-educated engineer Rajeev Samant founded the Sula Vineyards in 1997. Their first wine, released in 2000, was widely acclaimed as one of India's best wines. Since its inception, Sula has rapidly established itself as India’s leading premium wine brand, helping spark a wine revolution that has seen consumption grow at 25% annually and several new wineries come up in the Nashik area. Firmly committed to remaining at the forefront of Indian wines, Sula continues to experiment with new varietals, engage in sustainable agriculture, support the local rural economy, and, of course, make wines of outstanding quality and superb value. The Sula Chenin is off dry with aromas of quince and pear. On the palate it is tropical fruits, minerally with notable acidity and with sweetness on the finish. Enjoy this wine as an aperitif, with moderately spicy dishes, or with baked vegetables.

With the help of Sonoma, California winemaker Kerry Damskey, Samant started making wines at his 30-acre family estate in 1997. The wines began to garner acclaim, and the label soon became known as one of India’s top premium wine brands. Other vineyard sites and winery locations were established in Nashik and Dindori though the next decade. The winery produces single varietal whites and reds as well as blends, rosé, sparkling wines in the méthode champenoise and a late harvest Chenin Blanc dessert wine. The winery is known for employing local farmers and promoting wine-making as a viable agri-business for India.  Read less
