Stuhlmuller Vineyards Chardonnay Alexander Valley Estate Bottled 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

To accentuate the signature fruit and natural nuttiness of our estate grapes, we fermented this wine with 100% indigenous yeasts. Aging occurred in both barrels (91%) and larger casks (9%), all of which were French oak (10% new). The wine was fermented sure lie for 8 months and underwent 76% indigenous malolactic fermentation.

Since 1982, Stuhlmuller Vineyards has built a reputation as growers of world-class grapes, selling their coveted fruit to a number of top area wineries. The vineyard’s unique terroir creates Chardonnay fruit with classic Alexander Valley tropical characteristics, food-friendly citrus acidity and a distinctive mineral touch. The Cabernet Sauvignon offers enticing hints of sage and bay leaf coupled with the region's signature flavors of rich cherry, black fruit and cocoa. In 2000 Stuhlmuller Vineyards built a new winery on the property, sized precisely to handle the small amounts of world-class, estate fruit the Stuhlmullers select to create their wines. This shows tight, focused fruit on the nose with hints of freshly shelled nuts, a wash of vanilla, and soft, earthy citrus tones and floral accents. On the palate this is rather light and elegant with a round yet ethereal feel. It’s got lively acids that highlight the nutmeat and ripe citrus and pear fruit of the palate, which flows over to a steely stone fruit backend. The finish is really strict and focused, with excellent length and just a suggestion of wood spice. This is a sneaky little bugger. It’s a bit subtle but doesn’t lack for detail and surprises with each taste. It’s also wonderfully balanced and proportioned making this a dream to pair with food. 92pts

Slightly creamy aromas of apples and pears. Good acidity, baking spices and vanilla, a little bit of orange peel, and a zesty and spicy finish.

Very open vanilla/bubblegum nose, with banana and roasted nuts. The flavors transition into the mouth really well, and it ends in a buttery finish and a note of grapefruit.

Pretty lime meringue & soft peach aromas that give way to something slightly more tropical in the mouth. There's a warm, toasty quality that clings on for dear life at the end.

a medium straw in color, balanced California-style rich Chard with bright acidity. all the classic aromas show up - butter, toast, cotton candy, with green banana and discernible oak tannins (though not overwhelming)
