Stryker Sonoma Zinfandel Russian River Valley Alegría Vineyard 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

As our production from the Alegria Vineyard continues on so has our expectations for the Russian River Zinfandel, and the 2006 vintage has not disappointed. The bouquet is filled with rich and complex flavors of dark fruit; cherries, and black plums followed by a whisper of spice. The palate is rich and concentrated and is nicely framed with a hint of sweet toasty oak. Wonderful alone, or with grilled vegetables, chicken or ribs.

The wine style of Stryker Sonoma is guided by a youthful enthusiasm and tireless dedication to the pursuit of quality and pleasure. We are a fun-loving group with a slightly irreverent attitude with respect to the traditional methods of producing and marketing wine. We go to considerable expense to grow and produce pure, balanced wines that are fully extracted, rich in complexity and exude depth of character. These wines are enjoyable in their youth, but also reward those with patience. The wines of Stryker Sonoma are truly handcrafted, making use of both old-world traditional methods and the judicious integration of modern tools designed to allow for gentler handling of both fruit and wine. Our approach is sometimes risky, but the resulting bold, forward style is what we like to drink and we have found a growing following that also appreciates these wines. Our philosophy is reflected in the design of our winery and approach to winemaking. Bold but thoughtful. A blend of traditional and modern. Efficient, but lively and spirited. Our wines, we hope, embody our hard work, attention to detail and the joy we take in making them. The focus of our winemaking efforts is centered around the Cabernet family of varietals. Nonetheless, we also have a keen interest in Zinfandel and Chardonnay. Our annual production is roughly 7,000 cases, consisting of many small lots averaging in size from 200 to 400 cases each. Most of our annual production is sold directly to consumers from the winery’s tasting room and through our mailing list and website. We are all a bit free-spirited and Bohemian by nature. Conventional rules, devoid of understanding or heart, hold no appeal for us. Guided by youthful enthusiasm and tireless dedication, we produce balanced wines high in quality, rich in fruit, and deep in character. Flint and grapefruit peel in the nose lead into a continuation of those flavors with a nice blend of apple, honeydew, and passionfruit with a bit of white peppercorn. The acid is a bit sharp on the sides before settling into a nice juicy finish.
