Stoneleigh Vineyards Latitude Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2017

External Review by We Speak Wine:

Flavours: The aroma follows through to a palate that features ripe tropical fruit, melon and stone fruit flavours with a complex minerality that is balanced by a tight and fresh acidity. Aromas: This vibrant and lively wine is light straw in colour with subtle green highlights. It displays lifted tropical fruit aromas, with the dominance of passionfruit, citrus blossom and grapefruit. Complements: Serve slightly chilled on its own or with delicate white meat or seafood dishes.

In Rapaura, Marlborough there lies a vineyard studded with precious stones. Once the bed of an ancient river, today they form the bed of our vineyard. We call them sunstones.  During the day, the sunstones reflect the brilliant Marlborough sunshine up into the vines and grapes. Bathed with heat from above and below, the grapes gradually ripen and their beautifully rich flavour intensifies.  Starved of moisture and struggling to grow in the stony soil, the vines concentrate their efforts into producing a few precious grapes, with the cool Marlborough nights locking the crisp, concentrated flavour inside. What the vines lack in quantity of fruit, they more than make up for in quality.  The result is a rare wine; elegant and crisp, yet intense - the magical taste of Stoneleigh. Read less

Stoneleigh Latitude is a range heralding from an area known as the ‘Golden Mile’. Produced in New Zealand’s Marlborough region, the Stoneleigh vineyards featured scattered stones left by an a cient riverbed. The stones soak up the warmth of the sun’s rays by day and radiate that heat to help ripen the grapes by night. This natural phenomenon, coupled with the free-draining stony soils, inspires a distinctively crisp, fresh and elegant wine. The ‘Golden Mile’ refers to a strip of land covered with these stones that lines Rapaura Road in Marlborough. This area is highly regarded for its outstanding great grape-growing conditions. The resulting wines are aromatically lifted, as well as riper in spectrum, a result of a higher concentration of the stones in the area and the effect these have on the vines. - Winery The 2013 Marlborough Growing Season: Marlborough’s weather for the 2013 growing season will be remembered as being a return to warmer conditions when compared to 2012. With the exception of January’s rainfall, which was only slightly higher than average, the season was typified by less rain than normal. Aside from April, each month was sunnier than usual - February in particular. Harvest itself began a little slower than normal, before a big effort by both the harvesting and winery teams ensured the bumper harvest was finally brought in. Both the fruit condition and flavors of the 2013 harvest are excellent, ensuring a very happy winemaking team. ALCOHOL: 13.5% v/v RESIDUAL SUGAR: 3.7g/l TITRATABLE ACIDITY: 7.7g/l pH: 3.24
