New Zealandrsquo;s Sauvignon Blancs are making a splash, and this one provides an affordable test-drive. Itrsquo;s bright and racy, delivering a bracing mouthful of citrus, herb and green apple flavors that linger on the tart finish. Drink now.
Stoneleighrsquo;s 1999 Sauvignon Blanc reveals milky citrus aromas as well as a creamy, medium-bodied personality. This plump, richly-textured wine has gooseberry, stone, and lemon/lime flavors in its easy-going character. Drink this excellent value over the next year.
Situated in Marlborough, at the northeastern tip of New Zealandrsquo;s beautiful South Island, the Stoneleigh vineyards are covered with smooth ldquo;sun-stones.rdquo; They reflect the sunrsquo;s heat, which speeds the ripening process by day. Cool nights maintain intense fruit flavors. Unique free-draining stony soils, high annual sunshine hours and a crisp coastal climate unite to create a world-renowned terroir for Sauvignon Blanc. The wine displays a tantalizing bouquet of grapefruit and melon aromas, a full, soft palate of rich, ripe passion fruit, and clean, crisp apple flavors with a lingering finish.
Pungent, cool aromas and flavors of lime, fresh herbs and lemongrass. Juicy and intense in the mouth, offering very good cut without coming off as hard. A step up in concentration from the 2008 bottling. Finishes vibrant and persistent.
Although this winersquo;s aromas verge on vegetal, hinting at tomato leaf and celery stalk, the flavors are nicely ripe and citrusy, featuring grapefruit, lime and lemongrass. The wine is round in the mouth and nicely textured, with a long, nectarine-tinged finish. Drink now.
Pale, bright yellow. Juicy, lemony nose. penetrating but not hard, with good citrus intensity complicated by a hint of melon. Not particularly complex but finishes firm and juicy.
The wine is light straw in colour with green highlights. This wine displays vibrant fruit intensity. Ripe grapefruit, citrus and passionfruit fruit flavours dominate, and to layer over this is an added mineral complexity. The palate shows balance, both ripe flavours and fresh acidity.
