Stolpman Syrah Santa Ynez Valley 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Excellent depth of fruit, along with Syrah's typical notes of game, violets, blackberries and earth. The tannins are supple and amply cushioned by the great fruit and richness of the wine. Not yet reviewed; 2008 vintage rated 92 points by International Wine Cellar: Vivid ruby. An intensely perfumed, spicy bouquet displays red and dark berries, potpourri and Asian spices, with a hint of woodsmoke. Sappy, penetrating and sweet, with spicy red- and blackcurrant flavors and a velvety texture. The spicy and floral notes carry through a long, pure alluringly sweet finish. This could be drunk now or over the next five to seven years.

The Stolpman dry-farmed vineyard plantings are one of the great viticultural stories of California. Ideally situated on steep hillsides of Ballard Canyon, cooled by the Arctic air that flows from Alaska to Point Conception, this is a perfect spot. Winemaker Sashi Moorman works magic with the estate-grown Rhone varietals
