Stolpman Syrah Santa Ynez Valley 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

93 points Josh Raynolds (IWC): Bright, finely etched aromas of boysenberry, blackberry, cracked pepper and licorice, with a smoky overtone. Deep, juicy and precise, with energetic flavors of bitter cherry, candied dark berries, violet and pastilles. Dense but surprisingly lively, with superb finishing clarity and alluring floral persistence.

Not my style at all. This is probably the most "meaty," savory taste I've ever had in a wine, and to me it was out of balance. Almost salty.

The 2007 Syrah Estate (2,000 cases produced) includes a small amount of co-fermented Viognier, which provides a spicy, floral component to its black currant, peppery, meaty style. More closed than it was last year, it begs for another 6-12 months of ... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A Syrah wine from California in USA. 2007 Stolpman Vineyards Syrah Estate 750ml

black cherry, lavendar and honeysuckle with hints of smoke, chocolate abd espresso. Aged in 2/3 New Oak on Rousanne lees. Picked from the ridge line blocks where the fruit is the most intense due to extremely low yields.

The 2007 Angeli (100% Syrah from the finest sites and oldest vines with the highest density plantings) is a big, smoky, northern Rhone-like effort possessing notes of bouquet garni, roasted meats, scorched earth/burning embers, and acacia flowers as well as superb ripeness, terrific fruit intensity, full body, sweet tannin, and a long finish. This beauty should age nicely for 10-12 years. - Robert Parker 92-94+ Points** Only 12 in Stock **
