Stolpman Syrah Santa Ynez Valley 2006
The Stolpman Vineyard lies along the beautiful Ballard Canyon Road, in what I would call a moderate zonenot quite cool, not quite warm. The soils are laden with limestone, which mimic the great soils of the Northern Rhone region of France. This produces a very classy Syrah that hides its bigness quite well. The vineyard owners have stopped selling fruit as of the 2008 vintage so this is the 2nd to last Stolpman Vineyard Syrah that we will craft. It is one not to be missed. It should continue to age for 3-4 more years."Non-member discount!Non-members can still enjoy a 10% discount on case purchases. Editorial Reviews for Stolpman Syrah Santa Ynez Valley
Very fine, almost citrussy with wiry green herbal notes, salted plum, integrated wood tones, floral notes, wiry wild berry fruits a touch of candied watermelon peel and a hint of bell pepper. Really perfumed and balanced with good intensity on the nose. . Slinky, juicy, brambly berry fruit with lots of herbal, citrus rind and green melon rind top notes. Really lovely balance here, holding its alcohol very well. Emerging notes of briary black currant fruit on the mid-palate marry with the wood spice tones well but the acid becomes a bit too prominent. Clean and brisk on the finish with a nice grenadine tone that tapers out for a fairly long time. This is really nice, richly flavored but balanced, transparent and precise but the acid seems a bit out of whack. It’s still a fine wine 90pts
Molasses nose and flavors. It's hot but also extremely sweet. Wow, that's cloying. The tannins save it at the end... a little.
Dusty and dry on the nose. Great review from GDP - also getting the salted plum and floral notes that build to an acidic peppery crescendo and slowly finishes with a syrupy thing going on.
