What to Expect

Syrah: One of the few grapes to really be a global success. Syrah combines a meaty core of ripe berry fruit with tones that range from herbal to peppery in a package that tends to be medium bodied with good acidity and softer tannins. With age the wines can gain lovely leathery and black olive notes that make them a great match for savory and gamy dishes.

Reviews

Rating: 95/100 - As reviewed by Vinfolio Sashi Moorman is making a name for himself at Stolpman producing some extraordinary wines. Pretty peach nose, with hints of wild berries, probably derived from the primary racking onto fresh Roussanne lees--just think about that for a moment... The nose and palate are filled with sumptuous violet, caramel, cappuccino. Powdered white pepper and sweet on the palate with smooth chocolate.

Great SB syrah. Perfect tannins, balanced and complex fruit.

Rating: 90/100 - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 121, July/August 2005 ($35) Bright ruby-red. Reticent but pure aromas of roasted plum and flowers. Opulent, dense and sweet, with rich, broad red berry and spice cake flavors, along with a suggestion of maple syrup. More creamy and full-blown than the basic bottling. Finishes sweet, fat and persistent, with dusty tannins.
