Stolpman Sauvignon Blanc Santa Ynez Valley 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2008 100 % Sauvignon Blanc wine is fermented in the classic Loire fashion with 90% tank-fermentation and 10% barrel-fermentation with indigenous yeast. This sun kissed coloured wine has flavors of lemon, verbena, apricots, and not quite ripe Rainier cherries. The wine was kept on its fermentation lees until bottling to add a creaminess on the mid-palate. Enjoy pool side or with grilled lemon peel shrimp.

I can't help but think that if Alsace made a Sauvignon Blanc, this is what it would be like: very dry, floral and intense. Missing the typical grassiness of France or intense grapefruit of New Zealand, this is a more introspective marvel. Great with food, or great by itself.
