What to Expect

The classic Bordeaux blends rely on either Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon for the bulk of the wine with additions of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec helping to add complexity, color, body and structure to the finished wine.

Winemakers Notes

2004 Stolpman La Croce Red Blend is a 200-case blend of equal parts Sangiovese and Syrah, the stunning 2004 La Croce was aged in large 500 liter French puncheons (75% new). Spicy, sweet notes of new saddle leather, white chocolate, mocha, black cherries, and cassis are accompanied by a wine with lavish fruit and intensity, and no hint of wood. This brilliant effort will probably not be long lived, so purchasers should consume it over the next 4-5 years. Robert Parker Wine Advocate #166 (Aug 2006)

Reviews

Rating: 91/100 - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 128, September/October 2006 ($25) Saturated, bright ruby. Black fruits, espresso, spicy oak and a whiff of herbs on the slightly inky nose. Supple, sweet and dense, with very ripe flavors of dark fruits and bitter chocolate. Creamy-rich but not at all syrupy; this has good life in the mouth. Finishes classically dry and long, with substantial ripe, chewy tannins.
