Editorial Reviews for Stoller Pinot Noir Jv
This is lovely on the nose with perfumes of candied raspberries and light background spice notes all wrapped up in a lightly earthy blanket, with flashes of subtle wood spice adding further detail. This has a nice roundness to it in the mouth, though it remains vibrant and fairly tense. The cherry fruit has a lovely bitter/sweet thing going on and gains nuances of older wood, earth and gentle spice notes with air. This turns more tender in the mouth with a bit more oak on the back end and through the finish, where the fruit shows off beetroot and cranberry notes. This is a real crowd pleaser, novices and enthusiasts alike will enjoy it. 89pts
This has a rather effusive nose that offers up stemmy, smoky tones that frame the slightly earthy, sweet dried strawberry fruit tones. On entry this is quite delicate and refreshing with fine balance in an easygoing style. The mid-palate is soft and broad, with a slight green accent note adding complexity to the red, strawberry fruits. The leafy element becomes a bit more apparent and spicier on the modest cleansing finish that ends with a note of earthy sweetness. 89pts

Add your reviewThis wine changed quite a bit over the two hours it was open. At first the nose showed a mix of ripe red fruits and pungent floral scents, but as it opened, the hard curves melted away and aromas cherry, cinnamon spice and undergrowth prevailed. On the palate, it was silky smooth with focused ripe strawberry fruit and a slight savory note. The acidity was lifting and prevented this wine from ever becoming boring or tiring. The finish was light but enjoyable with red fruits lingering to the gentle close.
Open this bottle during a recent virtual tasting here on Snooth. Quite a different experience enjoying a wine and being able to talk to the head wine maker about the vintage and the climate and their thought process. Very informative and enjoyable. Slight signs of effervescence when unscrewing the screw cap. I saw visible CO2. On first pass the nose was somewhat subdued but the strong fruit tastes noted with the first sip, specifically red cherry and raspberry additions. Perhaps still slightly young but very well balanced acidity to compliant the younger tannins. Great color and mouth feel very typical of pinot noirs. Very good price for what you get and possibly one of my favortie pino noirs for the Williamette Valley in Oregon. Well done Stoller. Keep up the good work and get some the wines sent done here to Texas.
Glad I opened it a day before the tasting. Upon first tasting, it's super tart and loaded with acid. A bit young and unbalanced. Time with some air in the bottle overnight and through the following day, relaxed the nose to a nice bright cherry. Some floral tones and a hint of spice. On the palate now, bright Gamay-styled berry fruit. Red cherry, some pomegranate and cranberry with bright acid, which is still a tad high. It drinks younger, driven by fruit and strong acid and there are only slight hints of any earth or spice. Finishes on a metallic note. The JV isn't much my style of pinot.
