Stoller Family Estate Reserve Chardonnay 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

Our 2010 Reserve Chardonnay consists solely of high density (2600 vines/acre) Dijon clone material. The fruit for this bottling was hand picked on October 22 and October23. Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes were pressed whole cluster. After three days of cold settling, the barrels were gravity filled to begin a slow fermentation. To add character and complexity, both commercial and native yeasts were used. The wine was aged on the lees for 10 months and each barrel was stirred/battonaged creating a richer texture and palate weight for the wine. The Chardonnay was then transferred to blending tanks, cold stabilized and sterile filtered prior to bottling

Complex on the nose if decidedly not fruit driven with lovely layers of older wood, earth, leesy floral tones and hints of stone accenting apple fruit that shows edges of dried lemon and orange pith. Medium bodied and elegant in the mouth with terrific clarity on the palate which mimics the nose with it's blend of mineral, white orchard fruit, light wood spice and slightly creamy leesy flavors. The wood spice pops a touch on the back end then yields to a lovely finish, long with citrussy accents over a gentle touch of wood. This shows lovely purity and balance. 92pts
