The Sterling Napa Merlot celebrates this varietal with a vibrant, juicy core of red fruit; generous, youthful texture and a balanced spice profile. Following the deep purple hue, aromas of fresh cranberry and black cherry take the stage, complemented by cedar, spicy-floral and dried-herb notes. A great burst of flavor opens the palate, as deep red fruits interweave with cola across a smooth, weighted middle. Oak is the grounding force in the wine, holding it together and adding a toasty richness to the bright fruit profile. The finale is three parts, beginning with toasty clove and vanilla, followed by a burst of cherry compote and finishing with the lingering memory of wood spices.
The Sterling Vintner's Collection Merlot combines the classic offerings of this varietal in a smooth, complex, fruit-intensive style. Bright aromas of black cherry and plum hold through the senses as they join ripe, chewy tannins on the palate. The fruit is complemented by ample caramel, mocha and toasty oak from extensive aging in new American oak barrels. With layered depths and silky body, this versatile wine is appropriate for many occasions, as a stand-alone sipper or paired with a variety of dishes, including roasted chicken, pasta or pork.
Each year, our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon represents a snapshot of this world-renowned region and the vintage. In 2010, we captured that dark, spicy profile that is the hallmark of Napa while the cooler conditions of the season left an imprint of peppery spices, dusted cocoa and a bright finish. The palate shows concentration and weight, opening with rich, voluminous boysenberry fruits and baking spice. Chocolate tannins frame the red fruit finish, touched a hint of caramel toast. - WineryVarietal Composition:89% Cabernet Sauvignon4% Merlot2% Syrah2% Malbec2% other red varietalsBarrel Aging:16 months50% French oak36% American oak14% Hungarian30% new oakAlcohol: 14.6%Acidity: 6.0g/LpH: 3.80
Dark raspberry-truffle aromas take the lead, followed by glints of hibiscus and clove. Velvety smooth, the palate has a juicy pomegranate-blueberry character wrapped in sweet oak and baking spices. The fruit flows through the lengthy finish, laden with brambly berries and accented by licorice root. Showcasing the season's long hangtimes, the wine has a robust texture and complex structure that make it a perfect match for roasted meats, fall risottos or hearty pastas. - Winery
