This is a type of Pinot that's increasingly showing up, providing bargains for consumers. It has real varietal character in the raspberry and cherry flavors, silky tannins, crisp acids and dollop of smoky oak. It's on the thin side, but satisfies.

Complex and appealing black cherry, wild berry and savory herbal scents are well-proportioned, if a bit simple on the finish. Drink now through 2010.

Winemaker's Notes:

The Place Just inland of the Monterey Bay lies the 1,300-acre Paris Valley Ranch Vineyard in the San Lucas appellation of southern Monterey. Surrounded by the Gavilan and Santa Lucia mountain ranges, the property enjoys coastal fog and cool afternoon breezes from the Pacific that temper the warm climate of the Central Coast. These conditions allow for a long, cool growing season resulting in grapes with well-defined varietal character. Grapes for the 2003 Sauvignon Blanc were harvested from selected plantings within this property as well as from prime surrounding vineyards in Monterey and the north coast. Food Pairing Ideas: • Seafood Risotto • Chesapeake Bay-Style Crab Cakes • Fettucine Alfredo Awards & Reviews Technically Speaking Appellation: 100% Monterey County, 14% North Coast Varietal Profile: 95% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Chardonnay Alcohol: 13.5% Total Acidity: 6.2 grams/liter pH: 3.35
