Sterling Vineyards Chardonnay Napa Valley Reserve 2008
Sweeping aromas of toffee, nutmeg and clove settle on rich apple pie, baked pear and macerated Meyer lemon in the potent, polished profile of our 2008 Reserve Chardonnay. Citrus notes grace round Gala apples and poached pears on the entry, and then dive into toast and crème brûlée. Tropical fruit expands through the finish, touched by a hint of caramel and baking spice. With refined acidity and a clean palate, this is a wine to enjoy with food; try pork chops stuffed with apples and rosemary or steamed lobsters with drawn butter. Of course, a succulent turkey with this buttery Chardonnay always makes the perfect holiday centerpiece!
Our iconic winery is perched high above the town of Calistoga on a mid-valley hill. Its stark architectural beauty, state-of-the-art winemaking facility, and panoramic views of Napa Valley from the rooftop deck have attracted visitors from all 50 states for over 30 years.
Editorial Reviews for Sterling Vineyards Chardonnay Napa Valley Reserve
Very bright nose with notes of pineapple, bacon, and toasty oak over creamy key lime pie. This opens with a rich mouthfeel underpinned with bright acidity. It’s got slightly orange toned creamy fruit on entry and a creamy mid-palate with more tropical pineapple and slightly guava toned notes that lead to a vanilla and honey topped finish. The modest finish shows some heat and a lightly spicy, creamy finale. 88pts
Fat and buttery nose makes me think of a big plate of fettucini alfredo. It's creamy and smooth, with medium acidity and a bit more cream. Noticing a pattern of cream, and I do like it.
Big oaky buttery nose, w/ avocado and bacon on the palate. Has a good acidity backbone, nice length.
Like the other reviews say, mostly buttery and oaky, with a little bit of acid. Very bold and flavorful -- to keep in mind when pairing with food.
Soft, buttery and oaky - usually characteristics I'm not so drawn to, but really enjoyable. Hint of spice and citrus. Really nice to drink and would love to pair with food!
Excellent oaky notes, albeit a bit overstated. Stands-alone on a sunny Napa day.
The upper end of from solid winery! This wine is NOT readily available, but for those wishing to experience an upper end Chard, this wine is akin to Rambauer; stone fruit, peach and late season stone fruit, deep sweet apple tones, with a very light hint of vanilla on the finish. Well structured from front to finish.
One of my favorite Chard's despite it's less than 90 rating by Connoisseurs' Guide, Feb 08 (they gave it an 85). Wine Spectator gave it a 90. I give it a two thumbs up! Bright inviting straw color. Pear and floral with a slight toasty oak overtone. Velvety medium body with a lingering finish of buttery vanilla that makes me think of buttered popcorn. I love it.

Rich and complex, our 2006 Reserve Chardonnay reveals lush aromas of ripe apple, pear, flowers, creme brulee and toasty oak. The beautifully balanced flavors first mirror the fruity aromas, and then pick up yellow peach, light honey and hazelnut notes mid-palate. You?ll find an intriguing clove note on the expansive, fruit-imbued finish. Pair our Reserve Chardonnay with rich and creamy first courses or entrees, like lobster bisque, smoked salmon crepes or pasta with four cheeses. At the winery, we gently pressed the grapes, allowed the juice to settle and then transferred the juice to small barrels for the primary fermentation. To round and soften the acidity, we allowed half of the wine to complete malolactic fermentation. We stirred the wine (batonnage) every three weeks to re-suspend the yeast lees and integrate flavors. More than a year of sur lie aging in oak barrels enhanced this wine?s creamy texture and long finish, while contributing hints of oak spice.
The opulent tropical and floral aromas meld with luscious ripe pear and apple flavors, framed by a lingering, nutty, toasty-vanilla finish.
Tight and still a bit coarse in texture, showing a spicy, subtle citrus, green apple and pear focus, with hints of hazelnut on the finish. Gains complexity. This is worthy of short-term cellaring.

Quarterly Review of Wine ReviewIs marked by toasty oak nuances supporting bright, ripe apple and pear-like fruit perceptions. All winemaking techniques have come together in a seamless whole with attractive aromatics and rich, creamy mouthfeel.Wine Tasting NotesThe Sterling Reserve Chardonnay is a brilliant golden straw color. The wine opens with an inviting bouquet of ripe pear, apple pie, toasty/smoky oak and caramel with slight floral overtones. A soft, creamy entry is followed by flavors of caramel apple, ripe pear, honey and hazelnuts. This rich, complex wine is wonderful with baked salmon in dill cream sauce and with tarragon chicken.
