Sterling Vineyards Chardonnay 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

Sterling Chardonnay 2013 is an elegant Napa Valley white that offers complex, fragrant aromas of tropical fruits, honey, spice and oak on the nose. On the palate, layered flavors of bright citrus, golden apples, peach, lemon curd, caramel, spice and toasty oak with full body and lush mouthfeel. Pairs well with seafood and grilled meat dishes.

Nice round Sterling chardonnay from Napa. A touch of oak and some butter, with medium- acidity. Ripe pear and some butterscotch fill in the corners of this somewhat round offering.

Nice Napa chardonnay. Nothing special but good balance, decent fruit, crisp, clean, not overly oaky or too buttery. A little bit of a metallic after taste on the mid palate.

VINEYARDS: The Sterling Vineyards Napa Valley Chardonnay comes from a selection of prestigious vineyards throughout the region. This includes vineyards from the warmer, mid-valley area of Rutherford and Oak Knoll Ranch, giving the wine its plush roundness, fruit-forward characteristics. A small amount of Chardonnay fruit also comes from the southern, cooler reaches of the Carneros region adding balanced acidity to the rich fruit flavors. WINEMAKING: The Chardonnay fruit was harvested in the cool morning hours and sent directly to press at the winery. The majority of the fruit was barrel fermented in French (75%) and American (25%) oak to impart rich texture and added spice notes. In the 2015 vintage only a small portion of the blend (10%) was fermented in stainless-steel tanks to capture bright fruit character and retain fresh acidity. The final wine is elegant and shows a core of beautiful fruit character with balanced, bright acidity. TASTING NOTES: The Sterling Vineyards Napa Valley Chardonnay is a luminous, light gold color in the glass with fragrant aromas of fresh lemon crème, citrus, crisp apple and toasted hazelnut. The inviting nose leads to a richly textured palate with flavors of citrus, stone fruit and a honey almond character. The wine is well-balanced between an elegant, creamy roundness and a line of bright acidity. The pleasing finish is persistent and flavorful. VINIFICATION: BARREL FERMENTED STAINLESS-STEEL FERMENTED Alc: 14.5% TA: 5.7 g/L pH: 3.51

Wine: Representative of this famous growing region, our 2013 Napa Valley Chardonnay flaunts rich, golden character with ripe fruit and fragrant oak spices. Sun-kissed apple, peach, lemon curd and caramel are lifted by a bright citrus and flanked by toasty spices. The barrel contribution leaves a honey and almond impression across the finish. This elegant, full-bodied Chardonnay can stand up to fleshy seafood and grilled meats alike. Vineyard: To make our Napa Valley Chardonnay, we sourced grapes from a large variety of vineyards within Napa, collectively building a broad representation of this diverse growing region. We formed layers of flavor by using grapes that span the valley, from the warmer, mid-valley areas to the cooler, southern vineyards. Grapes from Rutherford give the wine its lush, ripe tropical-fruit character, complemented by the depth and racy acidity of the Oak Knoll and Carneros fruit. Winemaking: Harvesting grapes from several vineyards throughout the region, we maintained the unique expression of the fruit by fermenting each small lot based on its individual profile. A majority of the fruit was barrel-fermented, which imparted rich texture and lovely spice dimensions. In this vintage, we decided to tankferment some of the Chardonnay, providing a fresh, clean, fruit-driven counterpart to the opulent barrel-fermented portion. Vintage: Nearly ideal, 2013 started with an early spring and consistent temperatures throughout the summer. Like the year prior, it was fairly dry, which kept yields down and berries small. Harvest began on the earlier side and our Chardonnay was picked at the peak of maturity, when the fruit’s natural sugars and acidity were in perfect balance. Balanced and complex, our 2012 Napa Valley Chardonnay layers fruit from several vineyards in the AVA, marrying the lush, bold ripeness of mid-valley with the richness and depth of Carneros. Bright, golden fruit opens the nose, rounded with notes of honey, caramel, baking spice and toast. A bold entry of lemons and ripe apple develops weight and viscosity as it evolves through the mouth. The barrel contribution leaves an almost-sweet almond impression across the finish. Displaying true Napa style, this well-poised wine is perfect for all occasions and will pair with a variety of foods. - WineryBarrel Aging: 12 to 14 monthsAlcohol: 14.5%Acidity: 5.4 g/LpH: 3.61
