Structure, rather than richness, stars in this wine that is based on Cabernet but contains other classic Bordeaux varieties, plus a splash of Syrah. The tannins provide the architecture, and the acidity gives zest to the flavors, which could use more concentration.
Well-structured and elegant, with full flavor and great balance at the same time. Dark berry, cassis, anise and smoke are prominent in the complex array of flavors. Drink with lamb chops or pork roast. Food pairing: red meats Flavor type: traditional Body type: medium-full Finish: elegant
The rich, distinctive character of Napa Valley abounds in our 2009 Napa Valley Merlot. Dark raspberry-truffle aromas take the lead, followed by glints of hibiscus and clove. Velvety smooth, the palate has a juicy pomegranate-blueberry character wrapped in sweet oak and baking spices. The fruit flows through the lengthy finish, laden with brambly berries and accented by licorice root. Showcasing the season's long hangtimes, the wine has a robust texture and complex structure that make it a perfect match for roasted meats, fall risottos or hearty pastas. - WineryVarietal Composition:82% Merlot5% Cabernet Franc4% Cabernet Sauvignon3% Zinfandel6% other varietalsBarrel Aging: 14 monthsAppellation: Napa ValleyAlcohol: 14.4%Acidity: 6.2 g/LpH: 3.55Ageability: 2011 to 2015 ** SOLD OUT **

The Sterling Vintner's Collection Merlot combines the classic offerings of this varietal in a smooth, complex, fruit-intensive style. Bright aromas of black cherry and plum hold through the senses as they join ripe, chewy tannins on the palate. The fruit is complemented by ample caramel, mocha and toasty oak from extensive aging in new American oak barrels. With layered depths and silky body, this versatile wine is appropriate for many occasions, as a stand-alone sipper or paired with a variety of dishes, including roasted chicken, pasta or pork.
Our 2009 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is distinguished by its dark profile and deep, decadent flavors, representative of the cool vintage. Aromas of black plums and cherry pie are elevated by layers of spice cake and caramelized vanilla. Boysenberry jam introduces the palate, supported by black fruit and swirls of rich cocoa. Barrel influence is evident in the complex structure and toasty spices that accompany the dark chocolaty tannins into a long, lively finish. This wine makes a fine accompaniment to braised short ribs or pasta carbonara. - WineryVarietal Composition:81% Cabernet Sauvignon5% Merlot5% Cabernet Franc3% Petite Verdot3% Petite Sirah2% Malbec1% SyrahBarrel Aging: 15 months45% American oak45% French oak10% European oakAppellation: Napa ValleyAlcohol: 14.6%Acidity: 5.8g/LpH: 3.78Ageability: 2012 to 2017
The Sterling Vintner's Collection Merlot is a clear ruby color with aromas of ripe blackberry, jammy red fruit, vanilla, nutmeg, dark chocolate, and toasty oak. On the palate are flavors of rich black fruits; ripe black cherries, blackberries and a lingering finish of fine grain tannins.
