Sterling Napa Merlot 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

A rich purple-violet hue, the wine shows a rich, deep fruit concentration and jamminess. Hints of spice and toasty oak reflect vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and cedar. The wine is bright and clear with a long full textured finish.

Flavors of red berries on the nose - nice and fruity. Sour cherry on the palate.

Straightforward, with pleasant raspberry and green tea notes, it strikes a good balance between sweet fruit and juicy acidity.

The Sterling Vintner's Collection Merlot is a clear ruby color with aromas of ripe blackberry, jammy red fruit, vanilla, nutmeg, dark chocolate, and toasty oak. On the palate are flavors of rich black fruits; ripe black cherries, blackberries and a lingering finish of fine grain tannins.

Zesty but lean in style, with dried cherry and roasted sage aromas that lead to modest red currant and spicy herb flavors. Drink now through 2013.

Quite tannic, but that can't stop the layers of licorice, blackberry, herb and mint that blend nicely through the moderate finish. Needs some time to settle down and soften up; best from 2001 through 2005.

Firm in structure, with tight, cedary currant, earth and cherry notes, turning dry. A style that will appeal to left-bank Bordeaux lovers Drink now through 2006.

Drinks a bit heavy and thick, but therersquo;s no denying the juicy flavors. Plums, sweet blackberries, cherries and herbs flood the mouth, leading to some astringency from tannins.

Estate-grown grapes from Californiarsquo;s Napa Valley are aged in small oak barrels, resulting in a wine laden with black cherry and currant nuances and hints of tobacco overlaying velvety tannins.
