What to Expect

California's Napa Valley has been a source of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon for well over a century. Its warm climate and varied terrain allows for many styles of wine. One thread that runs through almost all the Cabernet based wines from Napa is their lush, ripe full-bodied feel and rich flavors of currant and berry. Wines from the valley floor, particularly around Rutherford, are famed for a dusty quality and those coming from the hillsides surrounding the valley, Mt. Veeder, Diamond Mountain and Howell Mountain for example, tend to be a little leaner with more obvious structural elements.

Reviews

This wine displays a deep ruby color with rich aromas of cherry and blackberry and a hint of coffee. The mouthfilling flavors of ripe black and red fruits, laced with spice, persist through the lengthy finish. Silky, ripe tannins structure the wine and contribute to the plush texture on the palate.

The 05 Sterling Napa Valley Cab is a better vintage. Omark is right... The 04 just doesn't have any body & the finish was weak! In the 04, there just is no real difference between this cab & their Vinter's Collection.

The 04 isn't worth the money... The 05 was a much better year!

Each vintage, the Sterling Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is created from the finest lots from their Napa Valley vineyards. Selected for their intensity of flavor and varietal concentration, the individual lots are kept separate and then blended together before barrel aging. The 2004 Reserve Cabernet grapes are sourced from Bear Flats Vineyards, the rolling hills of Moore Vineyards, the more mountainous Peterson Vineyards and Larsen Ranch in Calistoga where varietal character excels. Each of these unique vineyards imparts distinct characters to the fruit grown there, which in turn adds read more...

Our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is brimming with cherry, cassis, blackberry and a hint of black olive.

This wine maybe past its prime. Otherwise its a real disappointment coming from what I had thought was a premium napa valley winery.
It has good balance but no complexity and a very weak finish.. Where are the tannins ? This wine is overpriced and not a good value for what its being sold for.
There are much better california cabs for half the price.

Varietal composition: 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot Dark ruby in color, the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon opens to spicy notes of raspberry and black cherry with hints of cedar and toasty oak rounding out the aroma. Flavors of black cherry and blackberry, raspberries, hints of roasted coffee and an earthy, savory spiciness coat the palate, and lead to a long, elegant finish. These wonderful flavors and the smooth, silky tannins make this wine a perfect accompaniment to barbecued steaks and lamb chops, as well as richer pasta dishes and ripe cheeses.
