Stephen Vincent Cab 2007
Blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Merlot. 70% of the wine comes from the Central Coast and 30% is from Sonoma County. Complex flavors, soft tannins, and French oak are blended perfectly to produce this exceptional wine. Deep dark ruby color, with hints of blackberry and cassis flavors. Food suggestions: chicken, veal, lamb, beef, pork, and pasta.
Nose opens to caramel and spice. Over several hours, aromas shift to dominant cherry, then to prune, then to tobacco. Hints of leather, pepper, and Old Spice cologne intermingle. The palate launches with red & dark fruits, including tart cherry and stewed prunes, followed by caramel and oak. A smooth, satisfying finish carries a juicy array of flavors. (There are also momentary flashes of kool-aid and cola in the first several hours). Red fruit leads after three to four hours. At the same time, blackberry and dark fruit tastes spread noticeably during mid-trip as a mild dryness sets in. Not as good on second day – but still well-rounded and balanced with ample dark fruit and edges of tobacco. Nose delivers a strong “Big Red” soda aroma when uncorked the second time at 24 hours.
on sale @big joe's with food & wine approval (though 2006 vintage) for $10. sort of sweet & caramel-like on the nose. taste is of ripe (but not jammy) red & black fruits with smooth finish with the slightest hint of oak. very nice; will definitely have again & because winery is in sonoma, may visit next time.
Great value! Excellent by itself yet holds it's own with food.
If you are looking for a complex, dark, rich wine...this may not be your best bet. Very dry on the palate, followed by a fruity lightness. Interesting combination, but a little light on the finish. That said, for less than 10 a bottle, this makes a for a pretty good value and real good "table wine".
