Step Rd Shiraz Blackwing 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

I have scoured the best vineyard regions of South Australia to secure the fruit for the Black Wing range of classic varietals. Made at our Step Rd Winery, the emphasis is on intensity of flavour and drinkability. The complex, chocolate and spice aromas of Shiraz are always attractuve, and lead to a flavoursome, fruity palate which lingers with great appeal, leaving the drinker yearning for more. I am usually an Aussie Shiraz fan. This bottle has a rating of WA90 so I was deeply disappointed. I did not think this had good balance at all. Highly tannic and sharp, esp for a shiraz.

Decanted 30 minutes. Nose of spicy pepper, blackberry and a touch of alcohol heat. Tastes of big fruit: blackberry and cherry, with tobacco and tannins. Finish is dry, with some heat and sweet berry flavors that circle the tongue. Tannins dry the mouth quite a bit, leading me to believe this could use some more time. Nice Shiraz however.

From a fabulous vintage in South Australia, Step Rds 2005 Shiraz Langhorne Creek reveals a full-bodied opulence, wonderfully pure, rich, black fruit flavors, and amazing density, purity, and texture. It should be consumed over the next 4-5 years.
