Stanley Lambert Shiraz Barossa Valley the Family Tree 2005

Opened my bottle bought in 2010. Had it with a great filet mignon and it needs a big steak. The wine is rustic, brambly and big right now on tar, ink, maduro cigar tobacco, scorched earth and black plum and black berry fruit on the nose with a salty, savory quality. Big and burly still, with flavors of black and blue berry compote, hints of balsamic, roasted cocoa, charred oak, earth and a graphite minerality. It should have been decanted, so open 1-2 hours early or decant to enjoy fully. 89 pts. 6/28/12

Dense and dark in the glass. Strong nose of smoky, savory beef au jus. Newly opened and young, so it's super strong, but enticing. Palate of peppery blueberry, boysenberry, rhubarb and other spicy red and black fruits. Nice, zesty fruit, dark and delicious. It continues to evolve throughout the swirl and on the palate and even long after it's made its way down.
