Enjoyable, rich wine. Not sure it is worth the price though.

A fashionable country resort in the mid-twentieth century, popular with Hollywood due to its 1892 stone Manor House and historic gardens, legends of bootleggers and gangsters, ghosts and gypsies, Stags’ Leap has been home to three major family groups up through the modern revitalization of the winery that began in the 1970s. Stags Leap Manor, as it was called in the 1920s, was known as one of the prominent country retreats in the Napa Valley at a time when resort and spa business was big. In addition to lodging and dining, amenities included lawn tennis, swimming, horseback riding, children’s activities, golf, music, cards, a library, and Napa Valley wines and liquors (prior to and after Prohibition). Plum peels, blueberry, blackberry and toasty oak. Bright acidity on the front end, firm tannins on the back end. This should be really nice in a few more years.

Solid wine for the price. Excellent quality. Let breathe for ~1hr but drink within 3 hrs after opening as it loses its smooth finish.

This wine is amazing for a wine snob on a medium budget. Let it decant and watch it open up to velvety richness. I won't waste it on someone who doesn't know wine, but would be happy serving it to guests who appreciate a very good glass.

Intensity, complexity, structure, and elegance are the signature descriptors of this wine. Aromas open with clove, spice and concentrated black fruit. As the wine opens, distinct blackberry notes are revealed along with balanced acidity, rounded tannins and fresh fruit flavors. Vanilla, brown sugar and subtle pepper persist at the finish with lingering juicy red fruit as well.

This wine’s dark plum flavor is completely dry, with savory herb notes in the background. It’s reduced when first poured, needing hours in a decanter or several years in the cellar to come around. With air, the juiciness of the fruit comes to the fore, a sleek Napa red with rich balsamic notes and earthy, plum-skin tannins. Age it to serve with slow-braised short ribs.

There are small percentages of Syrah, Grenache, Carignane, Mourvèdre and Viognier in this Petite. Combined, they add to a greater whole of inky, coffee-mocha flavor around soft, restrained tannins. Blackberry and blueberry fruit also figure prominently, as good as your grandmother’s pies.

On one of California s earliest wine estates, a unique terroir and ideal microclimate support a classical standard of viticulture, land use, and winemaking that is as relevant today as it was over a century ago.

Expressive notes of cocoa powder, raspberry and lavender introduce this luscious and intensely fruity Petite Sirah. The palate follows with ripe black plum, black coffee, bittersweet chocolate and brown spice wrapped around structuredtannins with juicy, berry flavors on the finish. Stag's Leap Website
