Winemaker's Notes:

2010 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Artemis Napa Valley 750ml

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars:
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars is considered one of Napa Valley's first-growths. We were founded by Warren Winiarski and his family in 1970 and are best known for our estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignons — CASK 23, S.L.V., and FAY. Over the years, our wines have become some of the most highly regarded and collected wines worldwide. They are fashioned to express classic elegance, structure, and ageability, and to reflect the place in which they are grown.

Our 2009 ARTEMIS Cabernet Sauvignon offers inviting aromas of black cherry cola, red cherry, vanilla bean and cocoa powder along with a touch of clove and sage. These notes carry over onto the palate and combine with flavors of milk chocolate, toasty oak and hint of wintergreen. The wine has a smooth texture with great depth and fine-grained tannins. The vibrant fruit, great structure and balanced acidity make this wine pair extremely well with hardy dishes.

A perennial favorite on restaurant wine lists, ARTEMIS is generous in flavor and velvety in texture. Aromas of cassis and caramel rise and give way to earthy notes of black olive, black pepper, and truffles. Classic flavors of cassis and black cherry fill the mouth as notes of violets and vanilla linger on the finish. Enjoy this wine with braised short ribs on a cold winter's night or with a porcini and gorgonzola burger for you gourmet grillers

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars and owner Warren Winarski can arguably claim to have put Napa Valley wines on the world map. It was 37 years ago when Stag's Leap Cabernet won the famous Judgment in Paris Tasting in May 1976, beating out the best classified Bordeaux made the world stop and look to Napa Valley. A third of a century later they're still producing some of the best wines in the world. The quality and character of the Stag's Leap wines also lead to the Stags Leap District being granted AVA status. That quality carries through their entire line and shows through in Artemis, their Napa Valley Cab that's a blend of estate grapes from Fay, SLV and Arcadia vineyards with grapes from other top quality Napa growers. 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, aged 18 months in 21.5% new French oak. The Wine Advocate scored it 91 points and said "The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Artemis is laced with sweet red berries, plums, flowers, mint and cloves. It is an attractive, medium-bodied wine to drink over the next decade plus, once the tannins begin to soften. Today the 2010 is a bit compact. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025."

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Artemis is laced with sweet red berries, plums, flowers, mint and cloves. It is an attractive, medium-bodied wine to drink over the next decade plus, once the tannins begin to soften. Today the 2010 is a bit compact. The Artemis is made from both estate and purchased fruit. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. (13.5% alcohol): Bright red-ruby. Aromas of black raspberry, cola, chocolate, menthol and licorice. Fine-grained but on the cool side, with sweet raspberry and spice flavors complicated by medicinal menthol and herb notes. Boasts good inner-mouth energy but comes across as a bit clenched and green on the firm back end.
