Staglin Family Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford Estate 1995

Winemaker's Notes:

This wine displays a nose profuse with spice and cedar infused black cherries and currants followed by a rich palate of spicy red and black cherries, chocolate covered plums and blueberries with a tease of black olives lurking in the background. The voluminous mid-palate exits with a beautifully textured undercurrent of spice and white pepper that carries through to a lengthy finish that is inflected with hints of earth and mushrooms. This wine is already showing beautifully and will continue to develop more complexity as it ages for 5-10 years. Barrel Aging: 24 months Oak: 100% new French oak barrels Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Deep dark crimson. Lifting the glass to my nose I sensed little. Coaxing out by swirling I got some cassis and dark cherry. What the nose held back, the palate revealed: Super structure and breed that comtinued to eveolve nicely for about an hour, and then started to slide down the slope and gained some speed as it went, but what an hour it was. Tar, cassis, black cherry, a touch of cedar. This was a beautiful & pure cab. Nice resolved multilayered tannins and a clean level of acid rounded this out very well. A 40 second finish and 'Bobs your uncle'. :) (My wife is a Brit)

...richer and more intense in the mid-palate than the 1996, as well as more backward. The wine is high in tannin, extract, and richness, yet the overall elegance, symmetry, and harmony among its elements are present. This pure, black fruit-dominated.... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
