Staglin Cabernet Sauvignon(1999)

In 1999, warm summer days helped the Staglin Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon to achieve full ripeness, while maintaining a generous level of acidity in the grapes. The result is a wine with power and intensity, but with a balance and freshness that only Mother Nature can provide. Aromas of ripe blueberries and blackberries marry well with earthy notes of tobacco leaves and peat. The color is a deep, dark red, almost opaque. On the palate, the ripe fruit character follows through, then yields to flavors of cedar and spice. The wine was aged for a full 26 months, in order to soften and round out the read more...

Very deep crimson. Already a little bit of evolution. Very full and opulent and less obviously terroir-influenced than the older wines. Ripeness and Napa style more than anything else. Big and brutal and a touch of tea - is this because it's very slightly porty?! Hint of milk chocolate. Still extremely young. This should be a great wine - but less distinctive than some other vintages. The alcohol seems especially marked. 14.5%

Staglin Family Vineyard winemaking is accomplished to create wines of intense fruit character, with soft, supple tannins that allow the wine to be drunk upon release, but have the capacity to age and become extremely complex over time. Our wines have a long finish, and deep color, characteristic of the grapes from our vineyard. Our completely organic farming methods are designed to produce the most developed and intense flavors possible from our Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, and Chardonnay grapes. Once created, our wines are aged in French oak for 20-24 months, with approximately half read more...

Full red-ruby. Spicy aromas of currant, cherry, licorice and fresh herbs. Varietally accurate cabernet flavors of plum, raw currant, cedar and spice, with complicating notes of herbs and dark chocolate. Finishes with firm, slightly drying tannins and good length.
