Upon opening: Mild sediment in bottle. Pink/gold edges, implies more aging ahead. Garnet color. Slightly herbal/earthy yet highly restrained nose. Sweetness slightly above target, mild oak, earthy flavor, medium body, more than moderate tartness.
At 30 minutes: More balanced, softer acids/tannins. Body stands up to roast tri-tip. Finish lingers a bit more. Sour cherries, toast notes now gaining prominence.
At 75 minutes: Delicate tobacco notes, still a little too acid. Duskiness still a turn-off but finish is improved.
Tasted in December, 2006.

- Deep, ripe and rich on the nose with a touch of warm minerality. Sweet start then lots of tannin and acidity. There's much more fruit here than in the 1989 but I wouldn't mind a little more. More developed than a 1994 bordeaux would be. A little hot on the finish. Still some firm chew on the finish. A little drying. 13.7%
