St. Supéry Vineyards Rosé Blend Napa Valley Rosé 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Some people think rosé is a sissy wine, not worthy of accompanying meals even as light as a salad much less a sultry dinner of filet mignon. I don’t agree. A fruity, crisp. dry – dry being the key word – rosé is a delight for the senses. From picnics on the beach, to winter dinner parties with friends, to a tailgate party, all call for dry rosé. Full of character, this Rosé of Merlot from our Dollarhide vineyard was made with your and my food and pleasure in mind. The aroma of fresh strawberries leaps out of the glass at the beginning and are followed by a hint of a floral note. The palate again shows bright strawberry but then is followed by cherries and cream. This is a crisp, dry summer sipper. The year 2005 appears to show great promise in the grape growing world. It started as average year with moderate rainfall and mild temperatures throughout the winter months. In March, we saw the onset of spring shot up suddenly leading to temperatures well into the 80’s for over a week. This rapid heat spike caused vines to suddenly awake from their winter dormancy and grow rapidly.Temperatures soon fell back to normal, and the vines seemed to realize this and began growing at a more normal pace with more regular summer weather. Appellation: Napa Valley Blend: 100% Merlot pH: 3.67 Total Acidity: 5.63 g/L Residual Sugar: 0.10% Wine Alcohol: 13.5%
