St. Supéry Vineyards Red Bordeaux Blend Napa Valley Élu Meritage 2001
"Red Wine Bordeaux Blends by St. Supery from Napa Valley, California. Wonderful harmony, intensity and concentration of cherry-vanilla, rose petal and cassis are found in the aroma. On the palate juicy blackberry, red currant and black cherry notes are well balanced and rich without being overpowering. Ripe and supple... "
I worried because this is 9 years old. Uncorked it smelled at first like a lovely chardonnay, but gives way to a musty toasted fruit smell. In the glass, it's gold, almost apple juice-like. Strong toffee notes on the initial palate. Some caramel. It's interesting. It has taken on more of a liquer quality as there's no discernible fruit and all that remains are the toasty oak notes and the buttery toffee flavors. If you come across this, it might be worth a try to experience a good quality chardonnay from a quality producer, just after it's prime and taking on a second life as it declines. It's $5 a bottle now form Lees Discount Liquor here in Las Vegas. They might ship. At this price, it's worth a try!
This flow was the bomb!! Tasty with distinct flavors poppin' in and out. The tannins were perfect and the long lingering finish came in right on time. Worth the work hours to pay for it. Looking forward to a follow up.
