St. Supéry Vineyards Petit Verdot Napa Valley 2006
Jet black and dense with an enormous core of white pepper and spice, this estate grown 2006 Petit Verdot is outstanding. Aromas of blackberry and truffle are found just below the surface while ripe blackberries, cloves and plum explode on the palate. The tannins are soft and round, producing an incredibly long finish.
Elegant might not be the first word that jumps to your mind when thinking about a 100% Petit Verdot but St. Supery is nothing but. Not to say it isn't also a fairly big wine with persistent yet very ripe tannins. This wine definitely has weight in every part of it but it carries that weight well, think Gothic Cathedral. Blackberry jam, clove, cinnamon, cedar and tobacco all lifted up by a nice underlying acidity. This wine started me on my search for lesser known varietal bottlings.

Aromas of plum and black cherry permeate this inky, garnet hued Bordeaux blend. Flavors of smooth vanilla and hints of tobacco are present on the long, full finish. This wine is seamless from the beginning to the last sip; it will age beautifully and develop its flavors in the bottle.
