Food Pairings for St. Supéry Vineyards Merlot Napa Valley
Aged version shows character. The shows a dusty, leathery nose. Shows aged cab characters but still with good red fruit. Would love to start an Elu vertical.
Great merlot with hints of pepper and smoke on the nose. Good tannin, good acid and lots of dark fruit. Lovely wine with nice finish.
Extremely well-balanced and fantastically mellow and smooth.
This wine is serious - well blended - very complex fruits - a must try!!
84 Points - Straight out of the bottle, the body on this wine has a vibrant purple core trailing to a brickish red. On the nose, a captivating blend of crushed violets, red currants and raspberry concentrate. Additionally, notes of plum and prune presented as well with a touch of heat. In the mouth, this wine was soft and elegant on the palate. It was contemplative, with mild dried berry fruit showing on the front and moves gracefully across the mid palate. It finished dry and somewhat quick. For the Élu blend being primary Cabernet Sauvignon, the tannins were lighter and less textured than expected. As far as faults, it showed a touch raisiny which might be attributed its warm serving temperature. If I could turn back time, I would have aspired to review it at 16 degrees Celsius and given it some time in a decanter to mellow it out.
Was given this wine as a gift. Strong notes of black cherries and raspberries with a hint of coffee. Tasted deliciously of chocolate, berries, and molasses. Overall great wine once let sit breath for a while, great tannins, lots of complexity and a long finish.
Wonderful wine. Reminiscent of a Caymus
External Reviews for St. Supéry Vineyards Merlot Napa Valley
Supple and elegant, this St. Supery Cabernet Savignon from Napa Valley vineyards charms with aromas of black currants and wisps of vanillin, flavorful hints of rich cassis and oak, well integrated tannins for a complete and fulfilling wine.
Lively flavors of blackberry and currant with licorice, ground coffee, and vanilla notes. The wine shows toasty, charred American oak and firm tannins. This wine screams for a thick, pepper-crusted porterhouse grilled to perfection!
Wine & Spirits ReviewA sleek Napa Valley cabernet, this is bright and black at once, richly oaked with generous blue fruit and baked black cherry flavors hinting at what may come with time. It's dense enough now for a black-and-blue steak.Wine Tasting Notes84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot. Historically one of St. Supery's most awarded wines. Rich, ripe aromas fill the glass with sweet berry fruit and attractive tones of oak, chocolate and anise. Flavors of briar berry, toasted oak, and licorice. An elegant wine with a velvety finish.
Luxurious, rich and concentrated with aromas of cherry, currant and blueberry these are just the start of this 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon. The harmonious flavors of black cherry, anise and plush cassis explode upon tasting. This is a classic Napa Valley Cabernet which is wonderful young but has everything it needs to age beautifully. Enjoy now through 2011.
Wine Tasting NotesRich, deep and generous aromas of ripe blackcurrant and berry, cedar, oak and toast. The palate is full and round with ripe berry and plum, complemented by integrated oak, toast, and a hint of chocolate espresso. The wine finishes with fine but firm tannins.
The St. Supery 2003 Napa Valley Merlot is a not-so-subtle reminder that the varietal can have outstanding character, structure and ageability. This 2003 Merlot has toasty and spicy aromas of ripe plum with a little bit of cinnamon, cedar and briar. The fruit at the core is generous and dense with black cherry, raspberry, and currant; and it finishes with a hint of smoke and exotic spice. Pair this beautiful Merlot with a juicy, grilled rib-eye of beef or bison.
