St Jean Chateau Cinq Cepages 2000
Editorial Reviews for St Jean Chateau Cinq Cepages
which was very young with it unevolved nose of sweet, slightly smoky oak and sandy mineral tones. In the mouth this was lush and rich with great mineral cut and rigid, slightly rustic tannins that were bracing anf lingered on the licorice tinged finish. Far to young but promising indeed.
Enjoyed this wine immensely last night (2/08) upon tasting for the first time. Offered a great deal of leathery, dirty, under brushy character when first sniffed, and quickly settled into delicious brownie pan warmth and cocoa on the finish. Remarkable wine.
[$50] opened nicely licorice, anise, cherry, cedar, smoke, and chocolate which unfortnately later was overwhelmed by the cherry;nice balace, moderate tannins; more Bordeaux in style. Opened a bottle at the Kenwood Restaurant, nicely paired with a heafty beef. Would not decant; felt that it fell apart a little at the end of the meal. In previous tastings enjoyed the '00 more than '01. orginally priced $75, definately not worth the price, though I purchased for $50 and would buy again at that price.
($70) bright fruit, spice smooth tannins; best of the CJS cabs
Very interesting Super Tuscan - light, almost pinot like but certainly Italian - a bit more decanting next time and it will be close to great

A lean blend emphasizing cabernet in its cassis flavors, this wine ends in soft tannins, powdery as black chalk dust. Still primary, with blunt grape flavor, this could prove more interesting with several years of age.
This fine wine, which is at its best now, offers polished flavors of currants, blackberries and herbs, with smoky nuances from oak. It is smooth and polished in the mouth, with a good balance of acids and tannins. Not an ager, but complex and elegant.
Wine Spectator ReviewSmooth and harmonious, with ripe, rich, supple plum and blackberry fruit, shaded by cedar, anise, black cherry and spice attributes. Firms up and flexes its tannic strength on the finish. Very well-made. Drink now through 2010.
