St. Francis Rockpile Vineyard Rockpile 2005
Our Rockpile Red wine is a cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Merlot hand-picked in the late fall from Rod & Cathy Park’s Rockpile Vineyard at the 2000 foot elevation. This unique vineyard yields a distinctive crop of grapes due to its combination of elevation, geography, soil, and climate. Deep color and rich flavors, typical of mountain fruit, are abundant in this exceptional wine. Made in limited quantities, this wine is available only at the Winery.
First this tried this at the 2008 VinOlivo event in Sonoma in February of this year. I really enjoyed it there so I purchased to bottles recently. I had one last night with some friends and it was a bit tight. The bottle I tasted from at VinOlivo must have been open for a while as it more complete. I'll give it a year or two to see how it evolves.
I retruned from a trip to Sonoma Valley yesterday after four days of tasting. This was the finest bottle of the trip.
