St. Cosme St. Joseph 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

These extraordinary granitic coteaux should get a lot more recognition. The incredible sexy nose of the serine is a must in the Rhône valley. The ripening in 2005 was exceptional, with low yields and perfect balance. The malolactic fermentations took six months to be achieved, which has been great for the quality of the ageing in barrels.

The nose is delicate yet complex with aromas of pepper, dust, earth, spice, and dark fruit including blackberries. Really good balance in the wine with just a touch of acidity. The body is on the lighter side of medium. Substantial yet fine tannins. Great finish that stays for a while and remains balanced. This was an excellent wine, I highly recommend it to fans of Rhone wines.

Opaque violet. Vibrant blackberry and cassis aromas are complicated by smoky herbs and dried flowers, with bright minerality adding energy. A bright, silky midweight, with suave dark fruit liqueur flavors, supple tannins and good finishing cling. I l... Stephen Tanzer.
