Food Pairings for St. Cosme Little James' Basket Press
Heard this was created using the Solera method, a series of successively older barrels/tanks with wine transferred partly from newer to older tanks in succession once a season. Can lead to bottle variation. This one tested from a preservation machine. Alluring nose of perfumey floral, sharp slightly underripe stone (tree) fruit, licorice herb. In the mouth clean, smooth, strong sour ripe delicious fruit (raspberry, cranberry, some plum and cherry), well-balanced against the acid, some stony minerals, hint of smoke, spices (pepper), all with a bit of a steely edge. Short to medium finish. Dry. Body medium, acid medium plus, tannin medium or higher. Mostly grenache. Good QPR.
I decided to try this wine after it was recommended by the local wine shop here. This is a vin de table from France made from grenache sourced from both the Southern Rhone and the Languedoc-Roussillon areas. The wine is a dark red in the glass. The nose shows blackberries, raspberries, leather, earth, wood, and liquorice. When drinking the wine I noticed mostly blackberry and oak flavors on my palate. This is a medium bodied wine with somewhat bold acidity and moderate, finely textured tannins. I was pleasantly surprised by this wine and I think that it has a good quality to price ratio as I found it for just under $12. Great for fans of the grenache grape.
Solid bottle of wine here for the price. Definitely recommend.
Old-fashioned, almost decadent winemaking for the soul. Aged in vat. Be ready to receive the next bottles of Little James with a magnificent screwcap on the top ! The wine will evolve in a better way. Little James is for us the wine of freedom. Our Solera took advantage of a new origin this year: an extraordinary Grenache origin, among the most noble ones. A great name… Chhhhhhhuuuut, don’t say anybody, it’s a secret.. The fresh violet will come back to your mind, like a song which never leaves you, like a small tight bunch of flowers announcing springtime… Actually Little James is like our everyday life: love the beautiful things and laugh at the same time.. Violet, almond, oriental spices, ripe strawberry.
