What to Expect

Rhone Blends are generally based on Grenache, though some blends may be predominantly Syrah or Mourvedre. The fact that these wines are blends gives the winemakers unusual flexibility in creating a finished wine. In the Southern Rhone Valley of France the styles can range from light, fruity, soft Cotes du Rhone to big, bold, age worthy Chateaunuef-du-pape. This blend is also very popular in Australia and the United States where they frequently go by the Moniker GSM (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre) and exhibit the rich, bold fruit that both countries are famous for.

This a medium bodied Syrah that has a very distinct black pepper taste that appears in the middle and lasts straight through to the finish. Very spicy but not so overpowering that you can't enjoy the other berry flavors that are present in this wine. In addition to the black pepper, this wine has a very meaty mouth feel and taste that truly makes this wine unique.

This wine starts out with dark fruits and a light pepper scent on the nose. In the mouth this wine is quite spicy with strong pepper and spice on the palate, along with traces of oak as well. A medium-light body with medium tannins that are present but not overly dominating. The finish is long yet balanced with substantial pepper there too. As a fan of the spicy character of Grenache and Syrah this was a very enjoyable wine for me.

This Syrah fromVinsobres is spicy, with hints of raspberry and truffles; it really makesthe nose of the cuvee. This vintage exhibits incredible fruit intensity, balance and plentyof freshness.
